The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a $185 million plan by 601W Companies to add an observatory deck to the Aon Center, the city’s third-tallest building.

The Aon Center, standing at 200 E. Randolph St., will feature a glassy pavilion on the ground floor, and a 1,185-foot exterior glass elevator. There observation deck will have a restaurant and two thrill rides: the Sky Summit, designed to lift cabs filled with visitors over the building’s edge for 30 to 40 seconds; and a virtual reality experience, Ultraflight, that emulates soaring through the Chicago skyline, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The project is designed to by Chicago-based architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz. Construction is expected to begin on the project in 2019, pending City Council approval that could come as soon as in January.
